LG Begins Shipping LTE G Pad 8.0

Earlier this year LG announced a new line of G Pad tablets that focused on affordability in 7, 8 and 10.1-inches. While the specs don’t add up to the G Pad 8.3 of last year, LG’s latest offerings are still compelling options, especially for those looking for a tablet that lasts all day and can offer some of LG’s premium features. Now, the company has started shipping an LTE version of their G Pad 8.0, their 8-inch version of the colorful new tablets. With the 4G version of the tablet, the G Pad 8.0 can get only quicker and makes a little more sense as a portable option.

When talking about specs, the G Pad 8.0 doesn’t like much with a 1280 x 800 display resolution a quad-core Snapdragon 400 and 16GB of expandable storage. However, there is a 4,200 mAh battery onboard which should be good for a day or more of heavy use and there are also modest cameras at the rear and front (at 5-megapixel and 1.3-megapixel, respectively). Where LG is hoping to stand out is with their software additions, the G Pad 8.0 features Knock Code, the Smart Keyboard and other features from the G3, including the cleaner, revamped user interface that LG debuted later this year. Talking about the LTE version of the G Pad 8.0, LG’s head, Dr. Jong-seok Park said that “the G Pad 8.0 LTE, LG is setting a higher standard for connectivity in emerging 4G markets.”

With 4G networks becoming more and more prevalent outside of the United States, it’d be nice to see the G Pad 8.0 offer another LTE choice for those looking for a portable and capable tablet. Sure, the specs aren’t great, but for general use there’s much worse out there and when it comes to tablets in emerging markets it’s often the price tag that determine how successful one is going to be. LG has said that the G Pad 8.0 LTE will start hitting “key” European markets later this week, followed by Central and South America and then Asia. Available in a range of colors, this LTE version will be available in Black, White, Luminous Orange and Luminous Blue.
