Since its release, the LG G3 has been the darling of the media and consumers alike, with LG’s Mobile Division enjoying the corresponding boost in sales. One of the few complaints about the G3 was its size, coming in with a 5.5-inch display which was also one of the few negatives that Alex mentioned in his review. As with any manufacturer that finds a winning formula, LG are fleshing out their range of handsets, with a slew of G3 variants. Which brings us to the official announcement of the LG G3 A, a slightly smaller handset with the previous generation of flagship internals in a G3-like body. You could almost say that the G3 A is an updated G2.
The LG G3 A carries the same size panel as the G2, a 5.2-inch IPS display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, powered by the Snapdragon 800 that is clocked at 2.26GHz. 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM is present for multi-tasking purposes, and 32GB of internal storage is included. Like its bigger brother, the G3, a Micro-SD card slot is included. The 2610 mAh battery is removable. As with the rest of the range, volume and power controls are present on the rear of the device.
Another feature that has been carried over from the G3 is the laser Auto-Focus, that has been married to a 13MP camera module with Optical-Image-Stabilization (OIS) on the rear panel. The front-facing camera is a perfectly adequate 2.1MP affair. Connectivity-wise, the G3 A supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Near-Field-Communication (NFC), along with LTE-A. The G3 A weighs in at a respectable 146.8 grams, and has the following dimensions 141 x 71.6 x 9.8mm, both heavier and slightly larger than the G2 in all respects. As with the G3, the G3 A includes the popular Knock Code, something that is new though is the ability to control certain functions with the turn of the wrist; functions such as Reverse-a-Call, play the next song and controlling the alarm. Anti-Theft methods are included, which include the device’s alarm sounding when being removed from the charger by an unauthorized person.
The LG G3 A will be available in both white and titanium versions later this month through SK Telekom, South Korea’s largest Mobile provider. LG have priced it at â‚©704,000 which is around $677. There’s no details as to whether the G3 A will be released outside of South Korea. The LG G3 A appears to be a more than decently specced device, with a smaller footprint than the G3.
