A few years back, LG was making fairly unattractive devices and along with that a unimpressive software. LG was not exactly the first brand people would think of when buying a smartphone or recommending someone to buy one. Many people had a feeling LG was just copying Samsung every step of the way. This Korean giant came to its senses and realized what kind of resources and technology it has at its disposal. Lately we can see LG is really making an effort to deliver the best smartphones out there, starting with the LG Optimus G which was a really good phone and followed by the G2 and this year’s G3. LG’s G line is getting better and better and the G3 is really a smartphone which can compete with Samsung, Apple and the other manufacturers without breaking a sweat. Both its hardware and software offerings are capable of doing that.
That being said, LG’s software has immensely improved over the years. Many would say it still carries a lot of features which are completely unnecessary (or as some would call it, bloat), but the newest UX interface LG brought with the LG G3 is definitely yet another step in the right direction. Even though it is still kind of heavy, it looks far better than the previous iterations of LG’s UI. This Korea-based company announced that they intend to standardize that UI across their entire mobile product lineup. LG says that you’ll be able to find the LG G3’s UX experience across most of their entry to mid-range offerings (both smartphones and tablets) which are launching in the second half of this year. They went official and stated that the G3’s UX features have received a positive feedback from both the customers and the industry experts calling it a very user-friendly experience. “With the basic principles of the G3’s UX features rooted in making complex technologies simple and convenient, our goal was to provide consumers with a user experience they genuinely need and want.” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. He also added: “Standardizing these features across our entry- and mid-tier mobile products is just a natural extension of our desire to make every LG device feel premium and unique.”
LG then continued its press release by saying that the phones will include G3’s camera features like “Touch and Shoot”, “Gesture Shot” and “Clean View” as well as LG’s “Smart Keyboard” with its belonging features. This is definitely a good move by LG in my honest opinion, considering vast majority of people is not exactly tech-savy so any major change in the UI disturbs them. I experience that every day dealing with my friends and family and I believe you’ve had similar experiences as well. We’ll see how will this move reflect on LG’s sale numbers in the future.
