Smartwatches are in right now. It appears that every manufacturer is working on right now, or has already released one. Thinking back to when Android Wear was announced, HP was not on that list of OEMs that are on-board to make some smartwatches with Android Wear. But that doesn’t mean the smartwatch shown above isn’t going to be running Android Wear. However, according to Gilt, it appears that this is going to be running HP’s own software. As it will be compatible with Android and iOS and do simple things like notifications. They could have just used Android Wear for that and saved a ton of money, just saying. HP released a teaser this morning for the new smartwatch, which has no date of arrival or anything, but man it looks nice!
Fashionista is stating that HP reached out to Gilt because they wanted to partner with a fashion designer for their smartwatch. And that’s when Michael Bastian met up with HP. Basically, Bastian worked on the design while HP worked on the tech inside the device, as well as the software. As we stated above, there’s still no word on when this will be released, or the price, or even the name of the thing.
While this watch from HP does indeed look really nice, it’s a head scratcher as to why they didn’t use Android Wear. I mean they are already an Android partner, so it’s not like it’d take much for Google to let them in on Android Wear. Plus all the features that this will do, out-of-the-box, Android Wear already does and probably will do better. The only difference is this will be compatible with Android and iOS, while Android Wear is Android only.
