Motorola’s Moto X has been something of a success for Motorola and while it certainly took a long time for them to get their latest device off the ground, it’s definitely put their name back on the mobile map as it were. Before the Moto X came along, Motorola was only really known for making great devices for Verizon, and now the Moto X can be enjoyed by anyone on any network and not only that, but you can create your own device almost from the ground up with Moto Maker. Sure, the specs of the Moto X didn’t match up to other flagships of the time, but it had other excellent tricks up its sleeve to make it an even more appealing device.
These days though, how successful or “how good” an Android smartphone is rests with how well its creator can keep up with Google’s updates. As Motorola Mobility used to be owned by Google until its recent sale to Lenovo, it’s not surprising that the Moto X has kept up so quickly with updates. It was first in line – outside of the Nexus family – to get the update to Android 4.4 KitKat and now, it’s confirmed to get the Android L update. Punit Soni, Motorola’s VP of Product, happens to be pretty active on Google+ and he recently swung by a fan’s post to let him know that Motorola’s Moto X would be getting the update to Android L. In a simple post from Josh Bierwiler asking if the Moto X was to get updated, Soni flew in with a simple, “Yup”, and left it there.
As the Moto line of products from Motorola run stock Android, it’ll be interesting to see how soon after the launch of Android L the Moto X will get the update. It didn’t take them long at all to get KitKat on the Moto X, and the Moto G received its update to 4.4 earlier than expected. Android L on the Moto X could not only give users a fresh experience through Material Design but also extend their battery life thanks to Project Volta, which is already said to be making a huge difference on the Nexus 5. So there you have it folks, Android L will be heading to the Moto X.
