Usually when most people think about Wednesday, we think about the camel running through an office full of people yelling hump day! Well this past Wednesday was a little different in terms of being hump day. Search giant Google, released a ton of updates for their apps such as YouTube, Hangouts, and Play Music. With all the updates rolling out to the apps, yesterday was dubbed “Update Wednesday.” But Google isn’t done, the Android Device Manager will be getting an update too. We all know what the Android Device manager does, it simply tracks down your device if lost or stolen and can be remotely locked. In version 1.3.8, the good ol’ lost and found system gets revamped.
Now what I mean by the lost and found system getting revamped is that when you lose your phone and remotely lock it you can provide the person who finds it a contact number. You are given the option to add a contact number in your settings. So lets say for example you leave your phone at your neighborhood coffee shop and someone finds it, a new button will appear on the lock screen that will allow the person who found your phone to give you a call. That is if they aren’t some crazy criminal snatching phones and pawning them for money. The new feature is awesome due to the fact that it makes it easier for someone to contact you if you lose your phone.
The new update may be small but according to Android Police, code found within the APK indicates that Hangouts will be integrated in the device manager. There is no word on how hangouts will work within the device manager, but if we had to guess, the person who finds your phone has two options to contact you — via phone call or text message. The new update to the Android Device Manager is really helpful and takes the lost and found system to a whole new generation.
