The New Weather Channel App for Android – Redefining the Weather

Almost everybody has one on their smartphone – it is something that we check on first thing every morning after our alarm goes off, or while we are having our coffee.  We all want to know if we need to dress warm or take an umbrella…I am talking, of course, about a weather app.  There are many choices in apps for following the weather, but nobody follows it like The Weather Channel – it’s their job and that’s all that they do.  They have launched their new app in the Google Play Store for our beloved Android devices that claims to give us a “Fresh Look, Social Participation and Deeper Content” than other apps that simply give you a forecast.

The Weather Channel App for Android is for those that eat, breath and sleep for weather information – the true “weather enthusiasts” that do not want to simply know whether it is going to rain or not.  Taking suggestions from their iPhone users, they redesigned the interface to make it easier to use and added a social feature so that users can report their local weather, helping to improve your forecasts.  Kevin Doerr, senior vice president of digital products at TWC said, “Customer feedback is so important to us, and we have listened carefully to what our iPhone team has heard to improve the Android experience.  Not only does this app have a more streamlined view with better data, but it also has more context and crowd-sourced weather reporting.”

According to the press release, the new design and features will allow you to: Find your weather faster – Provide you with deeper, more engaging content – Get the information that YOU need – Allows you to become a forecaster by posting your weather on Social Weather…share a photo and – Help improve the overall forecasts – You can plan your travel – Prepare for pollen – Understand the severe weather around you with detailed stories – And helps you stay alerted to the weather when it matters most.

Just like TWC on TV, the App takes you beyond a forecast and gets to the science of the weather and stories about the weather and its effects on people’s lives.  After they give you the current conditions, they provide a forecast, radar maps (past, present and future), severe weather alerts pushed to your smartphone and the latest news and videos. You can also place a widget on your home screen for up-to-the-minute forecasts.

Please hook up with us on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think of the new Weather Channel App and how does your favorite weather app compare to TWC App…as always, we would love to hear from you.
