InFocus, a U.S. electronics company based out of the great state of Oregon has just launched a flagship type device, the M810, in Taiwan – and the sad part of this story is that we will never see the M810 in our own country – at least not through any official channels. It seems that InFocus and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. – a contractor that assembles iPhone and iPad devices for Apple – have partnered together since 2013 to bring smartphones to Taiwan. What is even more fascinating (or frustrating) is that this ‘Made in America’ device was in the company’s official online store on July 31, selling for only about $333.
The InFocus M810 is beautifully designed – reminiscent of the Sony Xperia line of devices. It sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 403 pixels-per-inch. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage…although there is a microSD card slot that will support up to an additional 64GB of storage. This is all powered by a 2,600mAh non-removable battery and is running Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. It measures 153.7 x 76.2 x 6.99mm and weighs in at 156 grams.
It is obvious that InFocus considers the camera an important part of the M810’s overall design with the main camera a 16MP shooter featuring a Sony Exmor R sensor, F2.2 aperture and comes with autofocus and a dual LED Flash. The camera includes 11 different shooting modes, 22 different scene options and 24 built-in filter effects, along with Face Detection, Object Tracking, Touch Camera, Smiling Photos and Wink Photos. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera for an excellent video chatting experience as well as for taking terrific selfies.
Other features include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), FM Radio, NFC, GPS and a microUSB 2.0 port. It also comes with the usual compass, gyroscope, magnetometer, approach sensors, acceleration sensors and an ambient light sensor. All-in-all, the complete package.
