With all of the music player apps that are out there in the Play Store at this point having one pulled down from the Play Store and limiting your selection to one less option shouldn’t seem like a huge deal. For users who were fans of Rocket Player though that isn’t the case, and especially so for people who might have been eager to give the popular music player a shot. According to the developer of the app, Google has pulled Rocket Player from the Play Store for reasons unknown at this point. The developer, Justin Tipton from JRT Studios says that the details outlined in the email response he got from Google were pretty vague, and at this point in time he isn’t going to share his thoughts on what he think the reasons might be.
Usually with things like this though the reasons tend to boil down to copyright infringement or other forms of violating Google’s policies for the Play Store. If the app was pulled, there was no doubt a violation in play but Tipton is not sure exactly what it is just yet, and hopefully Google will end up clarifying with him soon and will be able to re-instate the app as he points out that “This could end up being a major loss for myself, my employees and contractors. Each day we are not in the Play Store is critical.” If you were a fan of Rocket Player, and already have it installed that means no more auto updates through the Play Store for the time being, although the app can still be picked up from a couple of different sources, which includes the Amazon App Store and the developer’s website so you can still get the latest update if need be.
This is a sad thing to see as the app seemed to be doing pretty well and has been on the Play Store since 2012. For whatever reasons the app was pulled, Tipton and his team have worked hard to update the app recently adding in even more cool features and were confident they would see a rise in user base because of them. Tipton says they are currently trying to work towards a solution with Google over the matter, that of course will require them to get in touch with the correct people and see if they can get some more specific details about why the app was flagged for removal.
