In their continuing quest to increase customer performance, Rogers, together with their prepaid alternative, Fido are announcing a new and FREE service called Device Tune-Up. This is a new in-store diagnostic tool that they simply plug your smartphone into and with it the reps can provide you with a possible solution to your device problems – right on the spot. There is no need to leave your smartphone…heaven’s sake…nobody wants to be a part from their smartphone.
The rep just plugs your smartphone via the same microUSB port that you normally use to charge your device and they select ‘Device Maintenance’ and up pops six possible sub-menus – HealthCheck, SW Flashing, Wipe, Reset, TroubleShoot and Transfer. HealthCheck gives your device once over and makes sure that your operating system is up-to-date, as well as diagnosis your battery usage. One of its biggest uses will be for transferring data to a new device, depending on the OS and the brand of smartphone that you are using. You can choose just have your Contacts moved over, your Images, Videos or ‘Select All’ to have them all done at once. The whole process takes only 5 to 15 minutes, but it depends on your operating system and how much data you have to transfer – it takes about 5 minutes to transfer 1GB of data, whether it is music or photo files. The Device Tune-Up tool will provide the rep and you of an approximate wait time. It cannot transfer Apps that you have downloaded – you will have to retrieve them from the store they were originally downloaded from. If your device is working the same or worse after the tune-up, the rep can retry the service, send your device for repair or connect with Rogers Care.
The whole idea behind Device Tune-Up is to allow the reps to troubleshoot your smartphone while you wait, so that when you walk out of the store your smartphone is running fully optimized. The reps can assist you in a variety of ways – they can Activate your SIM card for you – Make your phone run faster – Backup, reset and restore your device – Transfer your contacts, email and media – and even fix the battery or broken buttons.
