Rumor: Microsoft, Amazon, Yahoo And Others Reportedly Interested In CyanogenMod

CyanogenMod is easily one of the most popular ROMs out there, and it makes sense due to the longstanding nature of their existence. While we already know that Cyanogen Inc.(the team behind CyanogeMod)is working with Nextbit for something really cool, latest reports are suggesting that companies who make smartphones to compete with Google and the Android operating system may have some interest in working with Cyanogen Inc. to bring some smartphones to market in the future.  According to The Information(paywall unfortunately)Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, and others like Yahoo are potentially interested in what Cyanogen has to offer, which if proven to be true could potentially help out the sales of both Microsoft and Amazon by making it easier to move handsets. I only say this because it seems reasonable to assume that if they worked with Cyanogen Inc., any smartphones coming out either company running CyanogenMod would almost certainly have to be running an aftermarket build of Android right? And we all know how the Fire Phone sales are doing, which isn’t much different from the Windows phone sales.

Sadly we don’t have much detail on that, nor do we know if the article written by The Information has those details either, but we suppose that we can’t rule out the possibility of Cyanogen creating some custom version of the software already running on those devices. Could you imagine a custom CyanogenMod version of the Fire OS, and/or Windows Phone? It sounds extremely weird but we don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible. Cyanogen Inc. is after all, filled with talented developers and providing custom versions of software for Windows Phone devices as well as Amazon devices would seem like a cash cow.

For the time being there is no definitive proof to point out what any of this really means, but the mention of it alone is enough to start making people wonder. We’re merely speculating, but if a Microsoft device came out running a version of CyanogeMod, would you by it? It likely isn’t the case, but could the partnership with Nextbit have anything to do with this? As we said most likely not but it’s fun to wonder and speculate on what the possibilities could be. Do you guys and girls have any thoughts on the matter?
