Many people are eagerly expecting the launch of the Google’s 6th Nexus smartphone. There have been tons of rumors when it comes to the 6th iteration of the Nexus smartphone, but lately everything points to Motorola as Google’s OEM of choice. According to the latest information, Motorola is indeed the OEM of choice, though the phone won’t be called the Nexus 6.
Let me clarify this. Motorola is allegedly using the name “Nexus X” internally, this is not its official name at this point, but it could be in the future. XT1100 is device’s model number on the other hand. Why aren’t they using the “Nexus 6” name considering this is the 6th Nexus phone and it will allegedly sport a 5.9-inch display? Well, because of the trademark issues. Back in 2010, Philip K. Dick’s family was threatening to sue Google because of the “Nexus” name. in Mr. Dick’s novel from 1968, Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?, Nexus-6 name was used for androids, so it’s kind of logical Google wants to avoid any lawsuits when it comes to this. You might not recognize the book, but I bet you watched or at least heard of the movie that was based on this book. named Blade Runner. Additionally, Google will reportedly launch this in secret, in other words have a rather quiet launch like last year. Nexus X launch is expected to occur this Halloween or a few days before / after it. The price is still unknown at this point though.
As for the specifications of the device, it is expected to sport a 5.9-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440) along with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor closed at 2.7GHz and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization while the 2.1-megapixel camera is expected on the front of the device. These are only rumored specifications of course, nothing is confirmed yet though we expect to get more information in the coming weeks. I actually don’t know what to believe when it comes to the rumors that the device will sport a 5.9-inch display (which we’ve seen in the past), it doesn’t exactly makes sense to me, though considering today’s trends… it is definitely possible.
