Samsung and Nike Partner to Bring us the Nike+ Running App

Two iconic businesses, Samsung and Nike have teamed up  – Samsung is the largest worldwide seller of smartphones and smartwatches and Nike is synonymous with athletic apparel, especially shoes – to bring us the new Nike+ Running App, which will be pre-loaded on the new Samsung Gear S.  Since its launch in 2006, Nike+ Running has provided runners the opportunity to track measure and share their runs with a worldwide group of the running community.  The new Nike+ Running App will use GPS technology to map out runs, provide instantaneous stats on pace, distance and track the runner’s progress.

Adam Roth, Vice President of Nike Global Running Brand Marketing said, “Nike+ Running has changed the way people experience sports.  It motivates runners to run further, faster and more often by tracking their activity, celebrating their progress, enlisting personalized coaching, challenging their friends and sharing runs with their entire social network.  The integration with the Samsung Gear S allows more runners to join the Nike+ community and enjoy the benefits of this great service.”

Chan Woo Park, Vice President of Product Strategy Team in Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics said, “We are very excited to welcome the Nike+ Running App to Samsung’s Gear portfolio.  Samsung Gear S with its ergonomically fit design, empowered by multi-sensors, GPS and IP67, is a perfect health and fitness companion.  With the Nike+ Running App, it will be even more attractive and fun for users to enjoy their running, while tracking runs, reaching goals and sharing with friends, all on their wrist.”

He is very correct in that respect, in order for smartwatches to be accepted in our society and in return increased sales, they must provide us with a function or purpose – the Nike+ Running App will make running more “attractive and fun” and give the Gear S another reason for us to purchase the wearable…it adds more functionality.

With the pre-loaded Nike+ Running App on the Samsung Gear s, users will be able to truly leave their phones at home and still map out running areas and speeds with the built-in GPS.  While working out, runners will be able to easily view running metrics such as distance, pace, heart rate, NikeFuel earned and time by simply raising their wrists.  The App also contains a built-in music player that will allow the user to pull-up a playlist with a quick tap.  With the Samsung Gear S’s 3G connection, it can deliver real-time cheers from your Facebook followers…which sounds a little ‘creepy’ to me.

Give us a holler on our Google+ Page and let us know if you are a runner and if this Samsung-Nike combo is something you would like to use…as always, we would love to hear from you.
