Samsung is no stranger to releasing a lot of different smartphones, with more devices on the market than any other manufacturer, and with all of those devices comes a whole host of different mid-range offerings. Much like everyone else out there, Samsung have a number of different mid-range offerings available for those not wanting to spend flagship kind of money on their next smartphone. While HTC is planning to release their first 64-bit smartphone, the Desire 820, it looks like Samsung isn’t too far behind them. The SM-G530F has recently appeared with a 64-bit CPU listed on Samsung’s own website in a UAProf listing.
The UAProf listing points out a model number of SM-G530F as using a Cortex-A53 CPU, which is a 64-bit core design from ARM and is featured in the Snapdragon 610 and Snapdragon 615. As such, it could be the case that the SM-G530F is about to be released with a 64-bit Snapdragon 610 or Snapdragon 615 inside. Mid-range devices over the past couple of years have typically used Cortex-A7 cores, like those found inside the Snapdragon 400, but the Cortex-A53 cores are said to be as much as 50% more efficient and a lot faster, too. Being 64-bit will also help get future updates like Android L and beyond without any serious need for changes on the manufacturer’s part.
With the Desire 820 to be announced next month during IFA, it’s possible that Samsung is to release their first 64-bit device around the same time, but we won’t be holding our breath. After all, IFA will be all about the Galaxy Note 4 for Samsung and a mid-range device is hardly to get people excited for the latest and greatest that Samsung have to offer. Still, a 64-bit mid-range device for Samsung could sell well over Christmas and if they price it right, they could compete better with the second-generation of the Moto G that’s said to be just around the corner as well.
