Solo Launcher Team Working on Android Wear Notification Center

These days, there are more launchers to choose from on Android than many help have time to try out, and one of the biggest ones out there is Solo Launcher. Not only does Solo Launcher provide users with more options and customization than regular stock launchers from the likes of Samsung, HTC and even Google themselves, it also brings some fairly helpful features with it. We reviewed Solo Launcher not too long ago and it’s a very competent Android launcher, especially if you’re looking for something different. Now, the development team is looking to take on Android Wear.

The recently launched platform from Google is available with either LG’s G Watch or Samsung’s Gear Live and while notifications aren’t much of an issue for Android Wear devices at all, Solo Launcher’s team think they can make things a little better. The team are looking to bring a Notification Center to Android Wear, for users to take a quick glance at a group of notifications on their wrist and their concept drawings of what they’re looking to develop includes a watch face with the weather and a widget (that presumably will only work with Solo Launcher) to help control your wearable from your smartphone and vice-versa. The aim of the project is to help deliver helpful information to users’ wrists and pretty much bring a launcher of sorts to Android Wear.

Looking over the concepts sent to us by Solo Launcher, it certainly looks like the team is looking to turn a watch face into a sort of launcher and notification hub. While there’s nothing wrong with that, it does seem likely to cause some confusion with notifications coming from your phone and Solo’s own notification center. Of course, right now the team only has concepts to show off, but in the near future we should have some code to test out and play with. The real question is however, will such a thing be embraced by users of Android Wear, or does Google’s card system do a good enough job as it is?
