Looks like Sony is going to be having their own press event at IFA, not that we are surprised. Their invite has just leaked out, and it looks like we’ll be finding out what they have on tap this year on September 3rd at 4:15pm Berlin time. Now they are about 6 hours ahead of us here on the east coast so that’s 10:15am for us. Looking at the invite it looks like we’ve got plenty of new goodies to play with after the announcement. Looks like a few new smartphones, speakers, TVs and a new camera lens.
You may remember that at IFA last year, Sony announced their two camera lenses the QX100 and QX10. Which were received with both positive and negative reactions. Now we never got hands on with either of these, but from what we’ve heard, they were pretty good for a first generation product. However, it appears that Sony is looking to announce successors to these at IFA next month, if the press invite tells us anything. These camera lenses sound good in theory but they don’t work so well in reality. Because how often are you going to carry around this camera lens along with your smartphone? Probably not that often, right?
There’s also a couple of Sony phones on the invite, which we are expecting to see the Sony Xperia Z3 at their event on September 3rd. We’ve seen a few leaks of the device already, but nothing crazy. The specs look almost identical to the Xperia Z2 which they announced at MWC 2014 back in February. Sony seems to really like doing 6-month product cycles for their smartphones. There’s also rumors of a new Sony tablet coming at IFA 2014. And with the Xperia Z2 Tablet just now making it’s way into stores and carriers, hopefully we just see a smaller Sony tablet. Maybe a 8-inch version? That’d be nice.
