Sony typically launches a new flagship smartphone about every 6 months. But they usually launch a new tablet once a year. They launched the Xperia Z tablet with the Xperia Z, and then skipped the Xperia Z1 and announced the Xperia Z2 Tablet back at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet has just recently made it’s way over to the US and has officially launched on Verizon – in fact we have one in house that we are using and will be doing a full review of shortly.
Now according to the Xperia Blog, the model number tells us that this is a LTE-enabled variant. Judging by the SGP521 model number for the Xperia Z2 Tablet LTE, and the SGP321 for the Xperia Z Tablet LTE variant. Other than that we have no idea what to expect here, or what this could be. We’re just assuming that it’s a Xperia Z3 Tablet since that is supposedly being announced at IFA next month, so it’d make sense. Also as Xperia Blog notes, there have been rumors of Sony working on a 8-inch tablet, so this could be a smaller Xperia tablet and not the usual 10-inch tablet. Which I’m sure many people would love, as not everyone is huge fans of the 10-inch tablet.
On the Indonesian Postel site, you also see some other models there from Sony. Which are likely Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact models and variants. We’ve already heard that there might be one heading to T-Mobile, but we are also hoping that it comes to other carriers as well – hopefully not 6 months later either. There are plenty of Sony fans here in the US, but it’s difficult to get a Sony smartphone over here unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for an unlocked one.
How many of you would love a 8-inch tablet from Sony? Right now I’m loving the Xperia Z2 Tablet, so I’d definitely love a 8-inch version. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
