Back during CES in January there was plenty of exciting and interesting stuff to see. One of those things was a brand new smart accessory from Sony aimed at helping you up your Tennis game. This smart sensor would fit in the back of a specially made Tennis racket that would connect up to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and provide you stats, details, and all kinds of other interesting data about your Tennis game. The smart tennis sensor will let you visualize your play data in real-time, and things like shot count swing speed, ball speed, and ball spin among other things. Whatever area of your play style you might be interested in analyzing, the smart tennis sensor looks to be able to provide it to you.
The sensor itself is going to cost any interested individuals a cool $200, and the sensor actually isn’t the racket itself but a little piece that will screw into the ends of the rackets. Sony had mentioned before that there would be a few different options of compatible tennis rackets from various well known racket brands like Wilson, Yonex, and Prince, but should you want to pick this little tool up you’ll still have to wait till sometime by the end of January of next year. The goal with this device is to elevate your tennis skills on the court. It won’t directly give you a faster and more powerful swing, but it can analyze all the data about the way you perform currently so you might be able to better improve based off of the collected information.
As for reading the data collected, you would do so through the companion app that can be downloaded to your smartphone, where everything is visualized and listed in a user friendly interface. There is a social aspect to the app as well so if you like sharing your accomplishments, and sports activity stats and data with friends and family, or if you just want to rub in your superior swing speeds and shot counts to fellow players, you’ll be able to do that too. You’ll even be able to record your play data together with video so you can watch match playback and see your stats as you play. It’s still a little ways off before this is officially available, but for the true sports enthusiast who takes their game seriously, this might be a solid investment to make.
