Description: Finger VS Axes is the latest game from Canadian studio, Brutal, and as you might imagine from an independent studio, things are a little crazy here. Finger VS Axes basically turns your finger into the main characters of the game, and you need to defeat little monsters that try and attack your finger with…axes. It sounds like a bizarre setting for an Android game, but the gameplay at work here is simple, addictive and just good fun. There are cool weapons that you can purchase as well, such as the new Chainsaw or the Machine Gun. Everything comes together to deliver fun, bite-sized gameplay that can be enjoyed anywhere.
How it Works: You’ll first need to download Finger VS Axes from the Play Store, and then you’ll be ready to start tormenting the little guys.
The game gives you a quick introduction on how to play the game, but in reality it’s pretty simple and you’re more than likely to pick it up super-quick. In a nutshell, you need to keep your finger on the display and just swipe into these guys in order to dole out some damage. Of course, my finger doesn’t actually show up below, but wherever your finger is will be where our little critters will be aiming.
Each level is set in a different area, like The Canyon, and each time you’ll have a more challenging time in defeating these little terrors.
The Tribe was a fun level for me, as there was a lot going on with a good number of enemies there to try and defeat.
At the end of each level, you’re treated to a fun animation of your enemy blasting off into the skies above.
There are a handful of cool weapons you can purchase if you’d like to, but I never once felt like I had to spend any money, of course these weapons do add some more fun to the game. The Chainsaw has recently been added and is also one of the cheapest. More weapons like these are often added as the game matures.
There are also a good deal of cool costumes to help spice things up as well. Rather than have the standard foe, you can fight against the free Pirate or the hilarious Fisherman.
As always though, if you’re not good enough and the game gets the best of you, then you’ll be reaching game over quick than you might have first thought.
Brutal Studio often updates the game with new weapons and costumes and more for players to come back and relive the crazy gameplay once more. There’s also a sequel on its way, and players of Finger VS Axes will be able to keep their data moving to the new game.
Opinion: Finger VS Axes is pretty much the kind of game I look forward to the most on mobile. I’m more of a PC and console gamer than I am mobile and something like this that really takes advantage of the touchscreen and presents me with some excellent arcade gameplay is just what I’m looking for, and boy is it fun. Being able to just load up a game like Finger VS Axes and just swipe the hell out of things is a lot of fun, and far more satisfying than you might think it is. I wish that it was easier to get a hold of the extra fun weapons without having to put in real cash, but the developers are upfront about their in-app purchases (with a disclaimer when you first open the game) so I can’t really complain too much.

- Speed (4/5) – The game ran fine and I had no issues with how quickly things were loading as I went from level-to-level.
- Features (4/5) – It’d be nice to see some more levels on offer here, but the overall gameplay and the extra weapons come together to form a coherent and fun experience across the board.
- Theme (4/5) – With cool, indie-style graphics the game has a fun attitude to go with the crazy setting of the game and it looks and sounds good.
- Overall (4/5) – A solid game that’s just a good deal of fun, Finger VS Axes might be a bit of an oddball, but it’s great for picking up here and there as well as letting off some steam for longer periods.

- Good-looking graphics are nice to see here and it sounds good as well.
- Perfect for those small times along the commute to work as well as longer sessions at home.

- More levels included would be nice to see, but you can always play with different weapons to mix it up.
- It’d be nice to maybe get one weapon upfront, but you can always earn coins in-game to pay for them.
Conclusion: Finger VS Axes is a game that’s a nice example of how a simple game can still be a lot of fun. There’s no need to pay for anything if you don’t want to, it’s a lot of fun and it’s just easy to pickup and play. It’s also a little crazy with sure helps to set the game aside from other titles and the focus on the touchscreen makes a lot of sense when we have these large panels in front of us. Overall, it’s a game that’s simple, satisfying and more than a little addictive and it’s also available on iOS if you so choose.
