Sprig is a new application from Google’ former executive chef, Ned Keller, who has an interesting story which he shared with the Business Insider. Back in 2002, Keller has moved to San Francisco and worked in a top restaurant, until his high school friend invited him to check out Google’s campus. He did that and was offered a chef position there, but he rejected it, “I don’t want to work in a cafeteria, that sounds terrible.” he thought to himself. His friend called him afterwards and convinced him to take the job, explaining that Google is going places and he would reject a huge opportunity. Keller listened to him and 2 years later Google went public and made his stock options worth million of dollars. In 2005 Keller became Google’s executive chef. The kitchen staff grew to 675 employees and served 40,000 meals per day, that’s a lot of food. Keller left Google in 2008. Years later Keller said that working in Google prepared him for his current role, Sprig.
Sprig is basically a healthy, organic meal-delivery service which is currently available in Northern California. This startup was co-founded by CEO Gagan Biyani, Matt Kent, Morgan Springer and Neeraj Berry. How does it work? Through a Sprig app, you can choose between three different meal selections (for now) and be on your way in seconds. The food will be delivered to you within 20 minutes after you place your order, all you have to do is pick the meal, set the quantity and pick / confirm an address, that’s it. “We want to make it so convenient and easy to eat organic food that everyone has access to it,” said Biyani. Sprig now delivers thousands of meals per week and the service is available Monday – Friday from 11AM – 2PM and Monday – Thursday from 5:00PM – 9:30PM, in case you’re interested. Sprig currently employs 40 people and their application is available in the Google Play Store.
