When I hear the words “HTC” and “finances” I immediately think of HTC’s struggles as far as turning a profit goes. This Taiwanese giant is dealing with serious issues lately and is unable to stabilize its business. They managed to turn a profit (barely) in Q2 this year mainly due to HTC One M8 sales, Q3 is a completely different story though, same goes for a number of quarters before Q2 this year. The official financial report from HTC, the revenue for the first eight months of this year was NT $123.327 billion. Year before that HTC’s revenue for the first eight months was NT $142.352, in comparison their revenue fell 13.36. March to June period is relatively solid for HTC year after year, mainly due to their flagship devices which are launched and sold in that period.
HTCs co-founder and board member, Cher Wang, said earlier this year that the company should focus on low-mid range devices in order to expand their business and try to gain some income from those markets as well. The company has released Desire 816 and Desire 820 this year in order to offer more devices and diversify when ti comes to price ranges. These devices are meant to compete with similarly priced offerings in China, the likes of Meizu, Xiaomi, Huawei, etc. Meizu is doing great things with their MX4 device and HTC needs to do something similar in order to really attract attention to the company and its products. HTC’s co-founder also said that HTC has increased investments in marketing in 2014, especially when it comes to the Chinese market (but elsewhere as well), considering the company has realized that is their weak point. They need to market their devices better and try to attract attention to the company that way, which is kind of obvious for a long time now. They created some advertisements with Robert Downey Jr. for example and even started pushing advertisements during Champions League matches, perhaps you’ve noticed that, I certainly did, it was hard not to.
Cher Wang is certainly an icon when it comes to the mobile industry. She has many successful projects behind her and hopefully she can help the company get back on its feet considering she is now more involved in the dealings of this Taiwan-based giant. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing what the future holds for HTC and would love for the company to get back to the very top of mobile manufacturers. They really do make great devices and great software to go with those devices, HTC M8 Eye which is probably going to be released soon could be an almost perfect smartphone and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing that. Do you think Cher Wang’s expertise can help HTC turn profit regularly?
