This shouldn’t be a surprise, especially after the huge number of adds T-Mobile got in August. But industry analysts are now expecting T-Mobile to have a huge quarter. The third quarter which ends in a couple of days – September 30th – is looking like it might be their biggest quarter yet. And Q4 is typically the biggest quarter for any carrier because of the holidays.
In August, T-Mobile added 2.7 million customers alone. Just in August. To show you how big that is, T-Mobile has been adding around a million new customers each quarter for the past year, with over 2.5 million in Q4 2013. So to add that many in a month is insane. Especially seeing as the iPhone launched in September.
“We believe that industry postpaid net addition momentum continued on the back of an ongoing secular shift from prepaid to postpaid and strong connected device sales. T-Mobile continues to deliver disproportional subscriber growth, though AT&T and Verizon should also deliver solid results. While Sprint re-entered the fray with new pricing and promotions, we fear limited success given its network status and expect the carrier to remain a donor of subscribers.”
While T-Mobile hasn’t sold as many tablets as they were expecting, T-Mobile is still adding a ton of customers, whether they are phones, hotspots, or something else, they are still adding boat loads of them. It’s going to be exciting next month when T-Mobile announces their Q3 results. It may even be their time to take over Sprint, depending on what Sprint’s numbers look like for Q3. But from what we’ve heard from their new CEO, Marcelo Claure, it doesn’t sound good. At least not yet.
How many of you are surprised that T-Mobile is expected to have another huge quarter? It shouldn’t really be a surprise, but it’s always great to see the underdog doing well, right?
