Android L isn’t even here yet, and already Android Engineers and programmers at Google are working on Android M. The line says “not cherry picking this into lmp-dev, this is an experimental “M” Feature.” So there you have it folks. We already have an experimental Android M feature in the works. Although that shouldn’t be surprising. Software developers typically are working about 2-3 updates ahead anyways. This doesn’t show us, per say, what we might see in Android M just yet. Although it’s a bit early to be looking at Android M, as we likely won’t see it until Google I/O next year.
Right now, Google is putting the final touches onto the Android L update, which we are expecting to come our way next month along with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 smartphone and tablet, respectively. We’ve seen Android L running on a Nexus 4 already, so we may see the Nexus 4 get another update, but it may also be time for it to say goodbye. As it has been around for two years and has gotten updates for those two years. Which isn’t typical in the life of a smartphone.
So Android M. It fits in perfectly. Ever since Cupcake, Google has continued through the alphabet and called each version something sweet. There was Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and then KitKat. With Android L we still don’t know the name yet – we’re betting they are partnering up with another candy bar this time around – and then there’s Android M which we expect to see next year at Google I/O and released next fall. What do you think Android M will be? Android Marshmellow? Android M&Ms? Hmm This is making me hungry, what about the rest of you? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
