Archos might not be the first name that you think of when you think wearable tech, or the connected home, but that needn’t be the case. The company has a whole host of different ‘connected objects’ (their term, not ours) and now they’re introducing what has to be one of the most intriguing additions to their lineup, a beany hat that plays music wireless from your smartphone. While there are hats out there that you can plug into your phone along with earmuffs that are actually headphones, this has to be one of the first wireless options.
The device might be using just Bluetooth 2.0 for streaming sad music from your phone or tablet, but it is going to retail for just £29.99 when it launches in the UK come October, perfect for when the temperature plummets. Still, at £30 there are questions raised about how good a hat it’ll be and how good it’ll sound. If nothing else, it’s a pretty novel idea and Archos’ press release sadly doesn’t give us any details an audiophile would want, or even what sizes the hat will come in. It does however, tell us that you’ll be able to listen to 8 hours of music from a single charge, and that all you need is the same microUSB charger that powers your phone to refill your musical hat.
Archos now has a pretty eclectic range of connected objects, from a set of scales with Bluetooth in them to a lightbulb that has a speaker embedded in it. The Music Beany as Archos is calling it only adds to the bunch and while it’s more than likely not going to sound great, at £30 it’s not mega expensive and it could be worth taking a look at, and let’s face it, it’d make a cool Christmas present, no?
