If you’re an Android enthusiast, you might have heard of the Big Android BBQ. It’s a fun little event that happens annually down in Texas and it’s coming up on October 17th. If you’re going to be heading out that way for the event this year you’ll want to make sure to get your hotels booked by September 19th for discounts as per BABBQ’s recommendation. Tickets are still available for the event but we’ll get to that later. The exciting news for those attending is that two of Google’s own will be hosting this year’s keynote speech, with Reto Meier and Timothy Jordan. Reto is the guy behind the management title of Google’s Scalable Developer Advocacy team which is part of a larger entity within Google called the Developer Relation’s Organization.
Timothy Jordan is a Senior Developer Advocate who works with Android Wear and Google Glass, so for anyone who is interested in Google’s wearables, this is probably one keynote speech you won’t want to miss out on. As a breakdown, the keynote will start with some information and coverage about where Android started as the wonderful mobile OS that we know and love, and then it will start to shift towards where Android is now in the wearables scene. Essentially the two are covering the evolution of Android from humble beginnings to present day wonders, which is a lot to cover.
Definitely expect some cool tidbits about Google Glass and Android Wear, but overall the keynote sounds like it will go over Android’s transformations through the years and how it has become what it is today, which is an OS that is not only baked int our smartphones and tablets, but also devices that are part of wearable computing and even with our vehicles now thanks to Android Auto. Now remember how we talked about the fact that tickets were still available for the event? We’ll go ahead and cover that now . There are tickets available in varied packages, starting from General Admission all the way up to BBQ[X]. Each ticket package includes some great new stuff that the previous one did not, and tickets usually tend to go fast so you’ll probably want to make haste if you plan on going. You can grab the tickets from this link, where you’ll fill out a form for the event registration and place your preferred ticket purchase. It’s also worth noting that grabbing the tickets from the link above includes the AH discount code which gets you an extra 20% off. Ticket packages include General Admission, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Kit Kat(sold out), and BBQX. The Big Android BBQ goes from October 17th through the 18th, and begins with a welcome party the night before on the 16th. Are you going this year?
