Facebook may have seemed like it was in a somewhat stagnant state when it comes to growth, and perhaps it just looked like that to some of us who spend more time on Google+ and Twitter than we do Facebook these days. Facebook seems to be doing quite well though as they are apparently the first application that hasn’t come from Google to hit the 1 billion installs mark through the Play Store. That’s actually kind of impressive, but at the same time not really too surprising. It’s still the largest online community, so this was bound to happen sooner or later.
While it isn’t any secret that many people aren’t a fan of the way the Facebook Android app has been implemented or changed,(you can see this just by reading some of the comments)plenty of people actually enjoy the application. I personally use it from time to time myself to keep up and keep in touch with those that will probably never leave that social community and venture to at least look into others. This is a huge milestone for Facebook, something that might seem odd now that they have split up the actual social network and messaging into two separate apps. With that though Facebook messenger will see growth in downloads and installs if users wish to continue using messenger to carry on conversations with friends and family.
The unfortunate thing may be that even if the app experience kind of sucks with Facebook for Android, the install numbers will show that people are continuing to use it, and that will give the team of developers behind the app no cause to make any sort of changes for improvement. Perhaps we should start a petition and stage a massive uninstall campaign to force some much needed tweaks. Or perhaps you’re fine with the way that Facebook looks and functions and you don’t need to see any changes happen at all. Are you still using Facebook yourselves? Or have you completely weaned yourselves off? Is Facebook messenger the next app to reach this level of usership? At 500 million to 1 billion installs it’s not impossible.
