Google For Education is really stepping up its game lately. Just yesterday, Google announced that Photoshop would be coming to Google for Education on Chromebooks. And is actually available now in a very limited beta. Today, Google for Education announced that students will now have unlimited storage space on Google Drive. Now this is a big deal because quite a few campuses have switched to using Google apps for everything. Like Gmail for email, Google Docs instead of Microsoft Office, etc. Prior to this point, Google Drive only gave students about 30GB of storage for Gmail and Drive. So it’s nice to see students get unlimited storage now. As it’s a great place to store assignments and such.
Google apps for Education customers will now get: “Unlimited storage: No more worrying about how much space you have left or about which user needs more gigabytes. Drive for Education supports individual files up to 5TB in size and will be available in coming weeks. Vault: Google Apps Vault, our solution for search and discovery for compliance needs, will be coming free to all Apps for Education users by the end of the year. Enhanced Auditing: Reporting and auditing tools and an Audit API easily let you see the activity of a file, are also on the way. ” This is all included for no extra charge. Which is huge!
I just checked my own Google apps for Education account, and I’m still sitting at 30GB of storage. So it may take a few hours before it rolls over to unlimited. But it’s still a pretty big deal for anyone that works or goes to a school and has a .edu email address with Gmail. How many of you are excited about these changes for Google Apps for Education?
