Earlier today, HTC took wraps off of their latest mid-ranger, the Desire 820. As mid-range devices go, the Desire 820 has a lot to offer on a budget, what with it being the first device to use a Snapdragon 615 and utilize a 64-bit CPU. While there’s no official word on pricing just yet, the Desire 820 will be available worldwide from September. So, just what do you get for your money, then? Let’s take a look at the Desire 820’s specs below.
We’ll start with the good stuff, under the hood here is an octa-core Snapdragon 615, with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 Ghz to do light tasks and another four cores all the same but clocked at 1.5 Ghz to do more heavy lifting. To go along with that Snapdragon 615, there’s also 2GB of RAM, too. On the storage front, there’s 16GB included in the box which is expandable using microSD cards up to 128GB.
The 5.5-inch display here sports a resolution of 1280 x 720 and it’s flanked by BoomSound speakers that offer stereo sound. At the front, there’s an 8-megapixel BSI front-facing camera that’s also capable of recording in 1080p. Around the rear of the Desire 820 there’s a 13-megapixel BSI camera with a 28mm lens and an f/2.2 aperture again capable of 1080p recording. All of this is powered by a 2,600 mAh battery that HTC have rated for 22 hours of talk time over 3G.
Speaking of 3G and 4G, the Desire 820 supports the following GSM bands: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz as well as 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps WCDMA bands, too. LTE bands we’re looking at are bands 1,3,7,8 FDD and for TDD it supports 38, 39, 40, 41, rounding things out is TD-SCDMA support on 1900/2000 MHz.
Connectivity wise, the Desire 820 is packed with the usual Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, 802.11n WiFi, GLONASS, GPS, a 3.5mm stereo jack and a microUSB 2.0 port. It’s currently running Android 4.4.4 with Sense 6 on top, and HTC have already said that it’ll be getting the update to Android L to take full advantage of that 64-bit CPU.
