LG Might Unveil Their First Clamshell Style Smartphone Soon

Remember the Samsung W2014? If you don’t that’s because that’s Samsung’s flip phone which happens to be a smartphone as well. This thing was introduced back in November 2013 and features a Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. This device was launched in the Chinese market, which you basically might have guessed as soon as you’ve heard what it is. Almost a year later, LG seems to be on the same path.

The other Korean giant is currently hosting a Wine Smart in South Korea. If you take a look at the image above you’ll clearly see that the device in question is a flip phone / clamshell phone. The image is dark so we can’t exactly see the details, but it’s definitely a clamshell device with a hardware keyboard. LG will probably unveil this thing soon, near the end of September seems appropriate. This will be LG’s first clamshell smartphone and it’s going to be interesting to see what specs it will carry in the end. I don’t believe this device will reach Europe or the US, of course I’m only speculating and might be completely wrong. Though these devices usually stay in Asia and sell best in China. There’s no word on what operating system might be on board, but I guess Android is a safe bet when it comes to LG. LG didn’t announce this will be a smartphone device, these are only speculations which I guess make sense because of the device’s name.

LG has released a lot of Wine phones in the past, though none of them were smartphones. It seems LG is ready to break that tradition and transfer that line into smartphone waters. I mentioned Samsung W2014 in the beginning of this article, but that’s not the only Samsung’s clamshell smartphone. They introduced a Galaxy Golden before it as well, there might even be other ones that I’m unaware of though. Would you be interested in a device like this? I doubt many of you would be, considering we’re used to one smartphone form factor these days. As always we look forward to hearing from you so go ahead and toss your thoughts in the comments of our G+ post.
