Mass Fidelity announced their new wireless speaker system called The Core today. This thing is supposed to have “Better Than Stereo” and it looks like it will follow through on that claim. The Core is a compact, multi-speaker system that stretches from room to room. It uses something called Wave Field Synthesis to fill each room with a “sound image.” Mass Fidelity CEO Ben Webster compares it to a hologram, filling every corner of your room with high quality sound.
The Core can be controlled from any smartphone or tablet and from other digital or even analog devices like a record player. Devices can connect to The Core system using both wired and wireless options. The custom designed acoustics are supposed to create “smooth highs, crystal clear midrange and bone shaking bass.” You don’t have to download a separate app or connect through a Wi-Fi router, either. Just fire up the Bluetooth on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other device and connect to the speakers. You can link up to nine of the speakers in a chain and control any one of them, or all of them, using your device’s built-in media player.
The speaker unit itself has six Digital Signal Processors and an ARM processor, along with a 120-watt digital amp to crank out the jams. Because of the Wave Field Synthesis deal, The Core doesn’t have “sweet spots.” It will kick out sounds that completely fill your room with good sound. Nowhere sounds bad, according to Mass Fidelity. The speakers are 6″ x 6″ x 4″ in size, and they come with a battery that it supposed to last up to 12 hours. This means it’s small enough to take with you and it will easily last you all day. It can be recharged in just two hours, too.
The Core also comes with Absolute Bass Technology that combines software and hardware to create massive bass. It also automatically re-tunes itself when you connect a wired device to it so the sound is always optimal. This is a high-end system that comes with a high-end price tag. You can pick up The Core from Mass Fidelity on Indiegogo for $349 right now. It will retail for $599 once the speaker hits normal retail channels.
