We’ve been seeing more and more connected cameras as of late. And this is something that Samsung started. While they weren’t first – I think Nikon was actually first – Samsung was first to make it popular with the Galaxy Camera back in 2012. I really liked the Galaxy Camera and there was one huge reason why, it ran Android. Why is that such a big deal? Well it means that you can automatically upload pictures to Google Drive and Dropbox and they’ll appear on your computer. Definitely smoother than most other camera’s built-in WiFi.
The Lumix CM1 packs in a 20MP camera with a 1-inch sensor. It also has 4K video recording capability. Aperture runs from f/2.8 to f/11 at it’s widest point which is 28mm zoom. The device is also a pretty high-end Android smartphone. It has a 4.7-inch 1920×1080 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor inside, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, with microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB. There’s also a 2600mAh battery inside and it’s running on Android 4.4 KitKat.
Right now, Panasonic is only launching the Lumix CM1 in France and Germany this year, and it should be out by Christmas time. No word on when it’ll hit other regions but hopefully we’ll see it over in the US and other countries early next year, as I’d definitely like to get my hands on it. Right now there aren’t a whole lot of connected cameras. Nikon and Kodak have one, well they were announced I haven’t actually seen them go on sale. And then Samsung has a few like the Galaxy Camera, the Galaxy K Zoom, Galaxy Camera 2 and the Galaxy NX which is their mirrorless system on Android.
Connected cameras really catch my eye because I take a lot of pictures everyday for the site, and taking out the SD card several times a day can get annoying. Having pictures transfer over to my laptop via WiFi is much easier. How many of you are interested in the Panasonic Lumix CM1?
