The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was unveiled at IFA Berlin just a couple short weeks ago, and it was made quite clear that Canadians would be able to take ‘notes’ sometime “later this year.” Last week, several Canadian carriers made a commitment to add the Galaxy Note 4 to their arsenal of devices – TELUS, Koodo, Rogers, SaskTel, Wind Mobile and Videotron. Thanks to a tipster of our source, we are now happy to announce that Rogers is accepting online ‘reservations’ for the Galaxy Note 4 – not sure how that differs from a pre-order? The reservation will cost you a refundable $40 deposit, but will guarantee you get a new Note 4 on launch day…whenever that is, possibly early October.
When the first in Canada get their hands on the Galaxy Note 4, it will seems very familiar if you previously owned the Note 3, although quite a bit different if you are still sporting a Note 2. As predicted (but note hoped), Samsung stuck to the evolutionary route rather than going on an all out revolutionary approach. Samsung finally did grasp the idea of using some metal in the new device by incorporating a sculptured, metal edge…slightly thicker at the corners to help absorb impact from a drop. That real metal edge and the faux leather and stitching on the back really make for a more elegant look and feel.
While the display stayed the same size, it jumped from a Full HD to a QHD display, which means 1440p and 515 Pixels-per-Inch (PPI). It sports the best processor out there, the Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7GHz. Unfortunately, it is still a 32-bit processor, but still a screamer and with an excellent GPU for you heavy gamers or video users. The Note 3 retained the same 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot to increase your storage. The other big news is on the camera side where Samsung made improvements in both the main camera – jumping from 13MP to 16MP and adding OIS – and the front-facing camera jumped to 3.7MP with a wider angle to capture more of you in video chatting or more people in a selfie.
You will also find improved S-Pen capabilities – enabling more of the sensation of actual writing. They also included a fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor, UV sensor and an oxygen saturation monitor – sounds more like a medical instrument than a smartphone.
