HTC is one of those well-known companies which make great devices and yet are struggling to turn a profit. HTC has been facing losses for a long time now, Q2 this year was their first profitable quarter after quite some time, mainly thanks to HTC One M8’s sales. Q3 didn’t go all too well for HTC either and the company is trying to find a way to turn a profit yet again. We’ve seen all kinds of rumors and reports when it comes to this company as of late. HTC will allegedly dabble in health tech sector as well as introduce its own live action cam, a direct competitor to GoPro cam. Other than that we’ve been seeing rumors about the HTC One M8 Eye smartphone which will allegedly fix the weakest point (according to many people) of HTC’s One M8 flagship, its camera. That’s not all it seems.
Earlier this year HTC has announced its Desire 616 dual SIM smartphone which was nothing special spec-wise, but it did sport MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor, which is not that common for HTC’s devices. The company started selling this device in India back in July for Rs 16,800. The device is sporting a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB). It has an 8-megapixel camera on the back along with a 2-megapixel shooter up front. Android 4.2.2 is pre-installed on these devices and the device comes with HTC’s Sense 5.5 UI on top of it. This device has been selling well it seems and HTC allegedly plans to renew its collaboration with MediaTek and release yet another device sporting the chip from this Chinese company.
According to this report, HTC is currently developing a device which will feature MediaTek MT6595 chip, the same one that is featured in Meizu MX4 for example. These two chips are not all that different though, but it will be interesting to see what is HTC planning, presuming this report is correct. No word on the specs or the release date of this device though.
