Tired of all the news about the Sony Xperia Z3 and its awesome PS4 gaming compatibility? How about some information about Samsung’s Gear VR for a change? While Sony and Oculus are still working on getting their own VR headsets out to market, Samsung has officially announced the Gear VR earlier this morning which we already reported on, but what about how one would use the headset? What can we expect for games coming to this device for use with Samsung phones? For starters, the popular Temple Run series is launching an exclusive version of the game for the Gear VR, so that those who want to fully immerse themselves into the world of Temple Run can do so on a whole other level.
If you thought Temple Run was fun and addicting before, wait till you get a chance to play this game on the Gear VR. I personally won’t be finding a Samsung device in my hands as I already have my mind made up on something else, but this is too cool as I was a huge Temple Run fan myself and it would be fun to play. Plus, VR games are just awesome, really no matter what they are. Imangi Studios is calling this game Temple Run VR, appropriately so, and just like the Gear VR headset itself there is no announcement about the launch date as of yet, however the game will be a launch title.
There also isn’t any detail about what the game will cost, but chances are that it will end up as free just like Temple Run 2, or perhaps Imangi will throw it out at a premium price, or maybe they’ll even offer it as a special inclusion in partnership with Samsung during a Gear VR launch Promotion. Who really knows at this point but whatever the cost ends up being, it will surely delight Temple Run fans and newcomers to the game alike. Since this is VR, everything is expected to have a more first person view, which should definitely give the game a nice little change of pace. What will be interesting to see is how one will actually control the movement in the game. Most likely as Droid Life points out, turning and such will be handled probably by tilt movement of your head, but what if everything is handled by eye movement, i.e. up,down, left, right for turning, sliding and jumping?
