Sponsored App Review: Mail1Click – Secure Mail

Description: From the same people behind VPN One Click comes Mail1Click, a secure way of sending emails privately from your Android device. How does Mail1Click stay secure? Well, it features asymmetric using 4096 bit RSA keys which sign and encrypt emails automatically. All files as well as the content of the emails themselves are all encrypted and stored using AES 256 bit. You can use Mail1Click on either your Android smartphone or tablet and yes, there is a web mail interface as well. It’s completely free to use up to 25MB of storage, so let’s take a look and see if Mail1Click is the secure email solution you might have been looking for.

How it Works: Mail1Click is a short download away from the Play Store and if you don’t already have an account with the service, you can easily sign-up for one when you’ve downloaded the app.

One thing I did notice is that you have to choose a password that’s rated as strong, otherwise you can’t sign up for an account. You can also use the password generator to create strong passwords, too.

Once you’ve got your account set up, you can go ahead and start sending messages back and forth. While the UI here is a little cluttered, your formatting options are neatly laid out and you can format things as you would when using a desktop client.

Everything you’d expect from a mail client is present with Mail1Click on Android, like the ability to search through your email, or access folders like the sent folder.

I could show you all sorts of features here, but the overall UI is consistent throughout and while it isn’t as mobile as I’d have expected, it works well and there’s little to complain about. For those looking for more info, you can take a look at the website’s How To guide which is accessible from the Mail1Click Android app and very nice to see.

Opinion: I’ve used a lot of different mail apps over the years, and while I don’t think that Mail1Click is as easy to use as it could be, there’s no denying it has all the features you’d expect from a mail client. Of course, this is much more than just a simple mail client, as Mail1Click is also a webmail service, that offers extreme protection ensuring the utmost privacy of your email messages and of course your attachments. While the service isn’t free, you can use it up to 25MB without paying a penny, which will give you a nice taste of that’s on offer and the user guide is nice and helpful as well. It’s accessible online as well as from other operating systems, making Mail1Click much more than just one app, and more of a whole secure service.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Mail1Click is a nice and speedy app, with no need to wait around when sending messages or looking to get everything synced up.
  • Features (4/5) – Everything you could ask for in a mail client is here, like the ability to search your messages, access different folders and format your emails as you want to.
  • Theme (4/5) – I do wish the UI was a little more smartphone friendly, but it’s not too cluttered and it’s easy enough to use, with very few surprises jumping out at you.
  • Overall (4/5) – Mail1Click works really quite nicely and there’s no need to jump through any hoops. With 256-bit encryption applied to your messages and RSA keys used to make a secure connection, you can be sure that these messages are certainly private.

Pros

  • Mail1Click will suit those looking to send messages over a network they feel is insecure, and will probably help a lot while travelling.
  • Has lots of different formatting options and such, with a focus on being a good email client first, rather than second.
  • Tried and tested encryption is used for both messages as well as to establish a secure connection.
  • Not just another Android mail client, works online as well as on other platforms, making it a great option for secure mail no matter what you’re using at the time.

Cons

  • UI is a little cluttered and can be fiddly on smartphones.
  • Difficult to choose a strong password that people can remember, and Mail1Click doesn’t let you create an account without a strong password.

Conclusion: Mail1Click is much more than just an Android app, as it’s a complete mail solution that’s not only secure, but also easy to use. As an Android app however, it’s a pretty decent offering. The UI is a little cluttered, but nothing is difficult to get to, and there’s a lot of settings and formatting options easily laid out for you to use. It’s quick, works as it should do and it’s really simple to get signed up with. With 25MB free, you could learn to use this without spending any money, and after that the subscription costs aren’t exactly expensive.
