Sponsored Game Review: Hill Rider

Description: Hill Rider is a game for Android that, as you might have guessed has you riding along a hilly path and trying your best not to crash as well as to keep going without running out of fuel. There are a number of different tracks and bikes that you can unlock as you progress further and further into the levels, with each track being randomized as you play it, so you’ll never have the same experience on each track more than once. Hill Rider is a game for Android that offers simple and speedy fun for those of all ages and skill levels, but is it any good?

How it Works: You’ll first need to download Hill Rider from the Play Store and sadly, the first screen you come to is one asking you to play other games before you’ve even played Hill Rider.

At the next title screen, you can choose your bike, you’ll quickly unlock others as you progress through the levels and post high scores.

The controls are really quite simple, all you need to do is adjust your speed with the brake and gas pedals as you monitor your fuel and make sure those trick jumps don’t kill you.

You need to make sure that you keep the car tanked up with fuel otherwise you’re run will be over. If you want to boost your score even further, you can perform tricks as you power through each track. It’s tough at first, but a flip will give you 500 extra points and if you’re good enough to pull off a double-flip you’ll get 1,000 points.

At the end of your run, you’re given a score which can help unlock extra bikes and different tracks.

The other stages offer you a nice change of pace from each other and they’re all randomly generated as well to make sure the game stays fresh.

Opinion: Hill Rider is a good fun game, but I do wish that the game was presented a little nicer. I like the graphical style as it doesn’t take itself too seriously, but the ads aren’t presented well and it seems that at every corner you are asked to try out another game. Still, we can’t complain too much, as the game is free after all. Besides, having to manage the throttle and the break in order to go far and fast without crashing and making sure you have enough gas to keep on going. I had a good deal of fun with Hill Rider and while I do think it could be a little more serious, it runs well and can be quite tricky at times.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Hill Rider runs nicely on either smartphone or tablet and it has some good pacing to it as well.
  • Features (4/5) – It does feel like a lot of other similar games, but the randomized tracks really help the game feel that much more realized.
  • Theme (4/5) – Things could be better here, but it’s still a good-looking game and there’s a lot to like about it.
  • Overall (4/5) – A solid game that might feel familiar, Hill Rider runs great and is a good deal of fun no matter how you play it.

Pros

  • Hill Rider is a nice bit of fun that doesn’t ask too much of its users and is good for younger petrolheads.
  • No need to learn tricky controls or anything like that, just gas and brake.
  • Random levels makes sure each experience is fresh and challenging.
  • Flips and tricks add an extra layer to the game and can really help bring your high scores up, too.

Cons

  • Ads can be a little annoying, but they aren’t too bad while playing the game and people do need to make money after all.
  • Asks you to install a new game more often than we’d like.

Conclusion: If we’re honest, Hill Rider isn’t one the best games out there on Android. However, it’s a lot of fun and will appeal to casual gamers as well as all ages and skill levels. There’s no need to spend time messing around with controls or anything else and yet the game is still quite challenging. Having to spend time monitoring the gas levels as well as preventing a crash all add up to a fun experience and I quite enjoyed my time with it. The randomly generated levels are also an excellent touch as well, so too are the tricks that you’ll need to perfect if you want to post those massive high scores at the end of each level.
