T-Mobile CEO Talks Smack about Sprint in Latest Interview

Big surprise right? It’s kinda what John Legere is famous for. Talking smack about his competitors. This week, T-Mobile hosted Uncarrier 7 from a carrier store in San Francisco, and did all kinds of new WiFi Features, and such. He was also interviewed by one of his favorite journalists, Roger Cheng from CNET. Roger asked Legere about Sprint and he basically said “Stick a fork in them, they’re done.” Which is similar to what Legere has been saying about Sprint for almost a year now. While we all thought that T-Mobile was done a little bit before Legere took over, that’s quite the opposite now. Legere announced that they added 2.75 million new customers in August alone. Which is amazing. That’s the kind of number you’d expect for Verizon to put up.

Talking about Sprint and their new CEO, Marcelo Claure:

“It’s a totally different situation,” he said. “They’re trying to get to the point where they want to stop the bleeding. They have a long way to go before their network is competitive.”

And I have to be honest, he’s right on spot with this. Sprint has been bleeding for quite a while, and they are working to stop the bleeding now and then they can start making profits and net adds. But it’s going to take a bit before that happens. Legere also said that the low pricing may hurt Sprint, if they show up and get a poor experience. Which depending on where they are, they may get bad coverage, they may get good coverage. It all depends. Legere added, “When your network isn’t up to par, you have to compete on price,” he said. “If you could, you would do that later. If customers come in because of price and the network’s not right, they’re going to leave.”
