If you root and flash ROMs to your phone, one thing you’ll need on your device is a custom recovery for for various reasons. There are more than a couple choices out there, but one such custom recovery that stands out more than any other besides Clockworkmod is TWRP, or Team Win Recovery Project from developers Team Win. Team Win is just two developers who you’ll find are pretty active in the XDA forums, members Dees_Troy and bigbiff. Now that the introductions with Team Win are over, let’s get into what you’re here for, which is what Team Win has to offer, and that’s some changes and modifications to the recovery that is loved by so many.
Those already familiar with TWRP will already know that it has a slightly more enhanced UI when compared to ClockworkMod which does make a difference for some users. The UI is staying exactly the same and that’s a great thing for those who love it. What is changing is plenty of the features that TWRP is now capable of. In this version of TWRP which is now version 2.8, native C++ based MTP(Media Transfer Protocol)support has been added, which will give users the ability to transfer media to the emulated storage as well as the microSD cards. This is big news for anyone that flashes ROMs quite often, because you’ll likely be dealing with microSD and emulated storage quite a bit.
In addition to the new MTP support, TWRP also now has native support for the likes of smaller displays, like the ones found on smartwatches, and for displays that are running a QHD resolution quality, which means the likes of the Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G3 to name a couple. If you’re eager to get this new recovery on your device and get updated to the latest, there are a couple ways to do so. One of which is getting the image file download from the Team Win website and flashing the image via the command line. The other option is to use an app called TWRP manager, which does the heavy lifting for you. The app is downloadable from the Play Store, just head there and search TWRP Manager.
