Since Amazon announced the Fire TV earlier this year, Amazon has been adding more and more content to their streaming box. Which is definitely needed. As it did launch with quite the selection, it’s always great to have more available, as it’ll make it more likely for more people to buy it. In fact, the Fire TV is the reason why Amazon isn’t selling the Nexus Player.
According to Amazon:
“New media apps and games include Spotify, PBS, PBS KIDS, NFL Now, A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime, Fashion TV, Epic TV, Young Hollywood, Green.TV, Outside Television, Dailymotion, Dungeon Quest, Ninja Hero Cats, Spoiler Alert, Leo’s Fortune, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series: Season 2, and The Wolf Among Us: A Telltale Games Series”
So lots of goodies there. Amazon was also nice enough to give us info on what the most popular apps and games on the Fire TV are. Unsurprisingly, the Amazon Prime Instant Video and Netflix are at the top for the most used media apps. While for games, it’s Asphalt 8: Airborne, and Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Minecraft is just crazy popular, right? So what about developer success with the Fire TV?
“As a small development team, we have had the largest return on our invested capital with Fire TV,” said Todd Daniel, Managing Partner at Shiny Box Games, makers of Dungeon Quest. “We are seeing world class performance metrics only a month into the game being available on Amazon Fire TV. User retention and attachment rates are higher than any of our other platforms.”
Amazon is still selling the Fire TV for $99, which may seem like a lot to some people, but for the amount of stuff you get with the Fire TV, it’s definitely worth it. Especially if you do subscribe to Amazon Prime already, as all of that content is right there for free.
