Android OTA: Device Updates & Firmware Report – October 31st Edition

Sprint HTC One (M8) Gets Eye Experience

When HTC announced their interesting Re camera, they also announced a slew of new software features that they’re be bringing to their previous devices, like the HTC One (M8) and the M7. Last week’s OTA rundown saw the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of the M8 get their Eye Experience update and now it’s Sprint’s turn. The update comes in at 250MB and the software version you’re looking for is 3.30.651.2 and it’ll bring the ability to take a selfie with a command and more to your device. For more info, HTC has the latest.

Verizon’s DROID Turbo gets Day One Update

So, you bought a DROID Turbo did you? Good for you! Now, have you gotten that Day One update? If not, head on over to your system settings to check, the software version you’re looking for is 21.21.15.en.US and if you want a changelog, you can ask Verizon for one. However, this is more than likely bug fixes, final network magic and that sort of stuff.

Verizon LG G3 Gets Update Which Adds Camera Unlocking

The LG G3 on Verizon has gotten a small update, which bizarrely weighs in at 201MB, to bring a camera button to the unlock screen on the G3. That’s it. Well, that’s all we can ascertain as Verizon’s support site seems to have forgotten about giving people details about these updates. Other than that though, it does appear to be just bug fixes and that sort of thing. If you come across anything significant, be sure to shout out below.

Huawei’s Ascend Mate 2 Might Not be Getting Android 4.4 KitKat

In what has to be one of the most ridiculous decisions any phone manufacturer has made, let alone one as large and successful as Huawei, the Chinese company has decided that the Ascend Mate 2 needn’t receive Android 4.4 KitKat. Okay, so you might be thinking “how old is this giant phone?” well my friends, it was released in June. June 2014. After only a few months on sale, Huawei told customers that the phone would be stuck with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which was released back in 2013, just before the now year-old Android 4.4 KitKat. Of course, that wouldn’t so bad if Android 5.0 Lollipop was just around the corner, which the Mate 2 probably won’t be getting, either. Hopefully, the fact that Huawei has taken down their blog post from earlier this week means that they’ve reconsidered their decision, but we doubt it. I guess now we know why the Ascend Mate 7’s UI is all Material-esque now, Android 5.0 too difficult for you Huawei?
