Chrome OS to Get New Default Wallpaper Full of Material Design

Chromebooks have become a pretty important product for Google and there’s no denying that they can be incredibly useful. I use an HP Chromebook 14 pretty much constantly while writing for the site, and I’m using it right now. Much to my own dismay, it appears that Android and Chrome OS are getting even closer together. I love the idea of my Android phone working closer with my Chromebook, but I would hate the two platforms to outright merge together. One area we can all agree that will be beneficial to Chrome OS is a Material Makeover. It seems that it some small way at least, Chrome OS is going Material.

An issue listed in the Chromium tracker details a proposed change to the default wallpaper used in Chrome OS, moving away from Paulo Flop’s warm image of the Vasco da Gama Bridge to a more professional, Material Design look. There’s a ZIP file that’s been made available with the new wallpaper in 1366 x 768 and 2560 x 1440 resolutions. It’s a nice, professional looking wallpaper and there’s also talk of using a black and white version for the guest account, which would certainly make a lot of sense.

This is just a wallpaper, yes. However, this could also be the beginning of Chrome OS getting a Material Makeover and it certainly looks like Google is keen to bring Material Design to all of their products throughout the web as well as mobile, so it only makes sense that Chrome OS would be next in line. We guess the real question is whether or not Chrome OS’ menus and such will get a similar sort of treatment, but only time will tell. You can download the new wallpapers in a ZIP file here and take a look at the Chromium tracker at the source link below.
