Ever since the Nexus 4 launched a couple of years ago, we’ve come to expect exceptional value from the Nexus line. ASUS has consistently done a good job at producing low-cost, yet high-value devices for a couple of years now and the Nexus 7 and the 2013 model that succeeded it were no different. One thing we’ve heard over and over again concerning the Nexus 9 is that it’s not going to come cheap. Just hours before the expected quiet release of both the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6, German pricing for the two devices has leaked out and it looks like neither of this year’s Nexus devices are going to be as affordable as those that came before them.
German retailers MediaMarkt and Saturn have prices listed for the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 and compared to previous generations, these are some pretty high price-tags. The Nexus 6 is listed as coming in 32 or 64GB variants in both black or white. The 32GB variant is listed with a price of €569 and €649 for the 64GB which converts to $720 and $822, but that’s just a straight conversion and it’s likely to be a straight mirroring of the Euro price which would translate to $569 and $649 which is still pretty expensive by most means.
Meanwhile, the Nexus 9 has been priced in Germany as well with a price of €399 for the 16GB version or 32GB for €489 which seems quite a jump to us. If you thought that was more expensive coming in at a whopping €569 is the LTE version 32GB, but then again the Nexus 7 LTE was hardly cheap. The Nexus 9 is listed to come in black and white as well. It seems like the quality build of the Motorola Nexus 6 and the pricey NVIDIA Tegra K1 could be to blame for pushing up the prices this year, but what we need to remember is that quality comes with the associated price tag.
We guess the real question is would you be willing to pay $569 for a Motorola-made Nexus phone or $399 for a Nexus tablet? Let us know in the comments below.
