Today, Google finally made the Motorola Nexus 6 official. We’ve been seeing leaks and rumors of this thing for months. We’ve even seen it on the subway in Chicago a few weeks ago. But now the thing is official. The Google Nexus 6 has a 5.9-inch display, and is running on Android 5.0. Which is the same version of Android we saw at Google I/O earlier this summer, and we’ve been playing with the unstable developer preview ever since. It isn’t yet available for other Nexus devices, like the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, just yet, but we should see those OTA’s very soon, and of course we’ll be letting you know as soon as the OTA’s drop. As well as the code heading into AOSP pretty soon as well.
The Nexus 6 is basically just a larger Moto X, as it looks identical to the Moto X that we went to see in Chicago last month. Although there is no MotoMaker, which is saddening, but probably not a deal breaker for most people. Although I would have loved to see a leather-backed Nexus 6 from Motorola. As far as the specs for the Motorola Nexus 6 go, we’re looking at a 6-inch Quad HD Display, 13MP camera on the back, dual front-facing speakers, turbo charging (Motorola’s Turbo charger is included).
“First, with Motorola, we developed the Nexus 6. This new phone has a contoured aluminum frame, a 6-inch Quad HD display and a 13 megapixel camera. The large screen is complemented by dual front-facing stereo speakers that deliver high-fidelity sound, making it as great for movies and gaming as it is for doing work. It also comes with a Turbo Charger, so you can get up to six hours of use with only 15 minutes of charge.”
So now it’s official. How many of you out there are planning on picking up one of these bad boys from Google? And now we really know why the codename was “Shamu”, other than the fact that Google likes Fish. Let us know if you’re ordering a Nexus 6, down in the comments below.
