This is about the third time it’s been confirmed, but Google has informed developers that they can now publish their apps that are targeting Android 5.0, onto the Google Play Store. Additionally, Google states that Lollipop will be headed to consumers on November 3rd, which is about two weeks away, and is also the date that the Nexus 9 is shipping to those that pre-ordered it from Amazon or Google Play.
So there’s not much that’s new here, but Google has confirmed again that they will begin pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop to Nexus devices on November 3rd. Now obviously not everyone will get it that day. We’ll likely see about 10% of the Nexus 7 and 10 users get their update, while it pushes out slowly over the next few days. I know it’s annoying, but the reason that Google does this is to be sure there’s no issues like what Apple had when they pushed out iOS 8.0.1 last month where it killed users cellular connectivity. We’ll also likely see the factory images pop up on Google’s site that day as well as seeing the code hit AOSP on November 3rd, which would open the flood gates for getting custom ROMs for many devices. Can’t wait to see if they can get it running on a Nexus One. That would be pretty sweet.
Many of us can’t wait to get our hands on the new version of Android. We’ve been itching for some new toys from Google for a while, and it’s coming up pretty soon. Pre-orders for the Nexus 9 opened up last week, and Nexus 6 pre-orders open on October 29th. How many of you are excited to get your hands on Google’s new Nexus family? Have you ordered the Nexus 9 already? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
