So last night a little rumor, well not really little but anyways, came out of Android Police. Which is regarding Project Bigtop, it’s supposedly a task-oriented Email System from Google. Now we are hearing rumors that Google’s new project will be going live later today, and will be called “Inbox for Google”. The reason why it’s “Inbox for Google” and not just “Inbox” is there is already an inbox app. Again, from Android Police, they are expecting the launch to go live later this afternoon, and will be available at inbox.google.com, which right now gives us an Error 403: Forbidden.
Development for this project has been ongoing for about 2 years now, dating back to 2012. Their sources are also telling them that this is going to be invite-only. Similar to what Gmail was when it first launched many moons ago. It will target Gmail users as well. So likely active Gmail users will get invites before Hotmail or Yahoo email users.
Unrelated, well kinda, Calendar is due to get an update this afternoon as well. The codename is “Timely” for this update. Which you may remember that Timely was purchased by Google. Well they were actually buying the developer company Bitspin. Now we are not sure if this has anything to do with the Calendar update, and we’re likely going to see a material design look on the new Calendar for the web. As we are hearing that all Google apps will be updated to material design by November 3rd, but we aren’t sure if that’s just for Android apps or web apps as well.
So Google’s got some big things coming through. There’s the whole Inbox for Google thing, then Android 5.0 Lollipop coming on November 3rd, and not to mention Google Play Music just added Songza-style curation features yesterday. How many are excited for this Inbox for Google product?
