Nobody believed the rumors about the upcoming Nexus 6 smartphone being 5.9-inches – a big jump from the current 5-inch size. But, it looks like the latest story from the Wall Street Journal confirms that “Shamu” as it has been codenamed, is going to be a reality. Google apparently realizes that phablets are the future and with the popularity of the larger screens – iPhone included – they decided they needed to up the ante. Ankit Jain, CEO and founder of mobile start-up Quettra and a former executive at Google Play said, “If Android doesn’t have something at that size there will be a hole in their portfolio. Google doesn’t want to make the same mistake that Apple made over the last few years by missing out on the demand for larger phones.”
The increased display is also rumored to be a QHD with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Google has also grabbed Motorola to make the next device, after the successful Nexus 5 was made by LG. It is also said to have 3GB of RAM and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor found in the Galaxy Note 4. This device will certainly raise the bar of the current Nexus line up. Hopefully, it will have an excellent camera to go along the these other flagship specifications as well as at least 32GB, but preferably 64GB of internal storage, as Motorola generally does not have microSD card slot for internal memory expansion.
While this sounds like a dream come true for those of us that like large devices, what about the current Nexus owners and how will they adjust to the larger size?
