As with all things Google it seems updates are abundant. While most of those updates have surrounded apps due to the ever encroaching Android 5.0 Lollipop switchover its always remembering there is desktop Google too, aka Chrome. Yes, Chrome has been getting some updates over recent weeks although these largely don’t make such big headlines compared to the abundance of Lollipop app updates. However one Chrome update which should be paid attention to is the bookmarks update.
Yes, bookmarks in Chrome looks really old. Like ancient times old and as such was certainly due a makeover. Well, the waiting is over and the makeover has arrived. For those who know about ‘Google Stars’ this update is a long time coming although it seems to have lost the ‘Stars’ name and is now simply ‘Bookmark Manager’. That said, the stars are very much still in use. Stars has actually been in the works for awhile now and we have been waiting for it for some time. In fact, back in August a nightly version of the update was leaked online and available to download and use giving eager users a sneak preview. Well no more for sneaking. The update is alive and kicking and the add-on extension is available to download via the Chrome Store.
So What do you get? Well, most of the features were already known due to the leaked nightly but at least now they can be confirmed and they look good. Firstly when you now go to your bookmark page you are presented with your bookmarks in a nice and attractive image thumbnail presentation. From here you can click on the image and be directed to the page as normal. In addition and as you can see in the main image above the update includes a nifty animation when bookmarking a new page. As you bookmark a small image layover pops up to let you know it has been added. You can also bin any bookmarks by clicking on the bookmark star and hitting the bin.Bookmarks are grouped by folder and in date order (so the older is furthest down). If like me you are full of bookmarks then you can quite easily and quickly scroll through. Alternatively you can always search rather easily by type of bookmark (video, image etc). Not to mention if you cant find a bookmark then by searching the bookmark update uses Google Search to actually search the content resulting in a much more likely result findings.
