HTC Announces Its Zoe App is Now Available for All Android Phones Running Android 4.3 and Above

At HTC’s fall event in NYC today, they announced that their popular application, Zoe, is now available in the Google Play Store for immediate download and will work on any Android device using Android 4.3 or higher.  This is a departure for a major manufacturer to release a proprietary application and open it up to other brands of devices – this was one of HTC’s pride and joys and offered just another reason to buy an HTC One M8. Apparently, Zoe is only the beginning of s series of HTC branded software releases for other Android devices.

BTC has been making some bold moves lately and seems to be running in the right direction.  New mid-range Desire smartphones that offer true value for the money are being shipped everywhere and helping to expand their sales base.  In an effort to build its own social network, they will also be releasing the App later this year for iOS – a big step for the hardware manufacturer.  Drew Bramford, head of HTC Creative Labs confirmed the news on Twitter.

You may be asking yourself, “What is a Zoe?”  The name is derived from the word Zoetrope – one of several pre-cinema animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion.  HTC may describe it best:

“HTC Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets.  These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email and other services.  These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories”
