Continuing with earnings week, it’s now Huawei’s turn. We’ve started covering Huawei a bit more this year, as they’ve been putting out more high-end devices and have expanded their reach. Which is seen in their earnings for this past quarter as well. They aren’t quite here in the US, but they are getting here. Huawei is reporting that in the third quarter of this year, they shipped 32.03 million devices. While about half of that, 16.8 million, were smartphones. That’s not a small number, especially for them not being here in the US in major capacity. Huawei is reporting that’s a 26% year-on-year increase, and the percentage of mid- and high-end devices grew an impressive 162% year-on-year. That’s some pretty impressive numbers from Huawei, but we aren’t done here yet. Huawei believes that the Ascend P7 and the Ascend Mate7 will drive these numbers up even more next quarter. So we’re looking forward to that.
Additionally, Huawei did achieve some huge growth in key regions. For instance over in the Middle East and Africa they grew a whopping 322%, in Asia Pacific 98%, and Latin America was 51%. That’s a pretty big deal for Huawei, especially in the Middle East and Africa. Now if we could get just their high-end devices here into the US. I know that their Ascend Mate7 would do really well here in the US, especially if it was on all four major carriers. Hopefully that’s not too far off.
Huawei is going to be continuing their focus on mid-range and high-end device as well:
“Our performance in this quarter demonstrates the ongoing success of our strategy to deliver the best premium handset devices to more people around the world,” said Mr. Shao Yang, Vice President of Marketing, Huawei Consumer BG. “Our production capacity for Ascend Mate7 and P7 is growing steadily and we expect shipments of our mid- to high-end devices to continue to increase in Q4 2014.”
