Earlier this year, LG decided to expand on their G Pad line of tablets, sadly for fans of the original G Pad 8.3 (a personal favorite of ours) the G Pad 7, 8 and 10.1 were all a little more budget minded than they were packed full of specs and put together with great materials like the G Pad 8.3 was. Still, that doesn’t mean the G Pad 10.1 was a bad tablet, and certainly not considering its price tag. We reviewed the 10.1-inch version of LG’s budget tablet not too long ago and were fairly happy with it. Now, it appears that this tablet could well be headed to Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
Our friends over at GforGames have discovered a listing for the G Pad 10.1 in the FCC complete with LTE Bands 13 and 4, which astute readers will know as Verizon’s preferred 4G haunts. So, it seems like that Verizon is to offer a new budget minded tablet complete with 4G. The G Pad 10.1 however, is really quite modest with it’s 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display, 1.2 Ghz Snapdragon 400 and 1GB of RAM. Still, it’ll certainly be good enough for the vast majority of users and hopefully, Verizon doesn’t get too carried away when they finally get round to pricing and releasing the tablet.
With budget tablets often being of the smaller variety, it is nice to see someone like LG offer a larger display without the associated price tag and the G Pad 10.1 does have one very good thing going for it; stellar battery life. With some of the best battery life available in a large tablet, the 10.1-inch G Pad might not be overly exciting, but it features some software niceties that were first seen with the G3 and for the average user this will deliver exactly what they want. The question is though, will anyone sign on the dotted line for a device like this? We’ll have to wait and see ’till it finally launches on Verizon we suppose.
